HealthCare Partners Medical Group Deploys Wall Mounted Computer System as Part of Electronic Health Records (EHR) Software Deployment

Troy, MI (PRWEB) February 6, 2007 -- EnovateIT, the leading integrator of mobile computing solutions for the healthcare environment, today announced that Los Angeles-based HealthCare Partners Medical Group has deployed an innovative new wall mount computer solution to complement their upgraded electronic health record system. The wall mount solution, provided by EnovateIT, consists of PC blades mounted on the wall in each exam room with an extendable and height adjustable PC arm.

By automating the patient information collection process with electronic health record software in each exam room, HealthCare Partners was able to increase data efficiency and accuracy, secure sensitive patient information, allow for a more personal interaction between clinician and patient, and free up valuable work space in their exam rooms. Working closely with an experienced EnovateIT consultant helped HealthCare Partners weed through the vast assortment of possible arm solutions and focus only on the best quality products that will go the distance. This collaboration between the two companies helped save valuable time, money, and resources.

"Our purpose in designing and consulting with HealthCare Partners on this project was to help their clinicians work smarter by facilitating real-time data entry, therefore improving efficiency and accuracy, and allowing clinicians to spend more time with their patients," emphasized Linda Novotny, EnovateIT Regional Sales Manager.

The PC blade solution provides security for sensitive patient information - critical for HIPAA compliance - and of paramount importance to HealthCare Partners, since they operate over 39 outpatient care centers throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Each exam room is outfitted with a thin client device with no hard drive. The thin client routes data back to a PC rack equipped with PC blades. This rack can exist offsite in a secure location, greatly decreasing the possibility of theft or loss of sensitive patient information.

Zan Calhoun, Chief Information Officer declared "The wall-mounted computer system gives us a long term, financially advantageous solution to the problem of device placement in exam rooms. In addition to its financial benefits, the product gives us better security around both data and devices, creates a less intrusive relationship between clinician and patient, and is not dependent upon the battery life of a hand held or wireless device."

The apparatus that secures the thin client and monitor to the wall is an ergonomic, position adjustable arm installed on the wall of each exam room. The arm has many movable parts so that during a patient exam the clinician can, with the touch of a hand, move both the monitor and keyboard to achieve the correct ergonomic position. This ergonomic adjustability was an important feature to HealthCare Partners, considering that their 450 plus clinicians would be using the arm for several hours a day. They also needed the flexibility for the clinicians to use the system from a seated or standing position to accommodate personal clinician preference. It was imperative to find a solution that conformed to their stringent ergonomic requirements.

"My experience with the arms has been amazing. With the ergonomic arms that are in my patient exam rooms, I can stand and view the EHR, or sit. It is my choice. I also have the ability to move the arm to have the patient involved in looking at the terminal screen comfortably to see his or her medical records. I believe that this was the best solution for our EHR implementation needs." stated Nathan J. Wilson, D.O., F.A.A.F.P.

According to Dr. Teresa Nakashima, the solution has dramatically improved workflow and patient care. "The EnovateIT wall mount solution allows me to enjoy the advantages of an interactive EHR and it allows me the freedom to directly face my patient while inputting data."

EnovateIT will provide hands-on demonstrations of wall mount solutions in their booth #2959 at the annual HIMSS conference in New Orleans, February 26 - March 1, 2007. On-site product demonstrations are also available by contacting the company.
