ExxonMobil Foundation Provides Grant to MediSend International for Humanitarian Aid to Africa
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 29, 2007 -- Physicians and health care practitioners in developing African countries are struggling everyday to save lives with limited supplies and outdated equipment. The ExxonMobil Foundation has provided a grant to MediSend International for seven containers of medical equipment and supplies to be shipped to Angola and Nigeria as part of ExxonMobil's Africa Health Initiative. Two containers have already been received by the Centro Evangelica de Medicina do Lubango (CEML) Hospital in the Huila Province of Angola, as well as 18 public health facilities in the provinces of Huila, Cunene, Namibe, Benguela and Huambo in partnership with Esso Angola, Samaritan's Purse and Africare. The additional five containers are staged and ready in MediSend's Dallas warehouse for shipping within the next three weeks.
"ExxonMobil and MediSend International share a commitment to support the public health systems in Africa. The generosity of the ExxonMobil Foundation has enabled MediSend to ship numerous containers in the past and this grant ensures MediSend's sustained effort on the part of the Africa Health Initiative," says Nick Hallack, President and CEO of MediSend International.
Contents of the seven containers are valued at between $3,500,000 and $4,000,000 and are individualized for the specific needs of each of the recipient hospitals. Esso volunteers working in Africa help unload the 40 foot containers holding various categories of medical specialization including obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedic and biomedical, etc. The desperately needed supplies are then distributed to the hospitals and health facilities throughout the region.
